So to all the millions who read this blog, I wanted to let everyone know the baby update!
I am currently 34 weeks along. I am scheduled for a c-section on June 14. I am hoping and praying that June 14th will be the date, but there have been little complications along the way that may change that. Nothing major, but enough little things that I guess add up to the doctors being cautious. My kidneys and liver have been causing problems -- not for me really, just visible in my labs I guess. Some of my "numbers" are going up which cause concern in the doctors. I have received steroid shots to help the baby's lungs develop, just in case I need to deliver early. I really feel I will go at least most of the way to June 14, if not all the way. I am in the process of meeting with each of my doctors (I have three!) to update my "birth plan" and I will be insisting that unless something happens to where one or both of us are in some kind of danger, I want to keep this baby cooking all the way to June 14!
In the meantime, I am essentially living at the doctors. I have appointments twice weekly -- one for a regular exam and one to just do a blood pressure check and quick urinalysis. Normally though I would only be going once every other week, so this is getting to be a lot. Josie knows all the staff there, and they know her. She has a little fan club there. I am also getting weekly nonstress tests for the baby to make sure it is moving normally and has a good heart rate. Those aren't a big deal for me -- I am just hooked up to a monitor and told to lie still in a giant recliner. It is more of a challenge for Josie to entertain herself for the 20 - 30 minutes they take. Luckily the nurses there are very sweet and they read to her and play with her while I am in the recliner. In an odd way, it's kind of like having a pseudo-babysitter.
So that's the deal with the littler of the two. The bigger of the two has her own big deal happening tomorrow -- her first birthday! We will be having a little cookout for her and of course will be videotaping and taking pictures! I am making her a little heart cake of her own and we are curious to see what happens there... she does not like to touch sticky or slippery stuff, so I am wondering how the cake will go over. If she does indeed eat it with her fingers, I've got news for her -- she's feeding herself her own bananas from now on!
Josie and I have been hanging out at home, mostly laying low -- in between doctor visits, that is. We entertain ourselves the best way we know how, by being silly:
And being silly with Daddy, too:
Going for walks with Stevie:
And refusing to wear pants:
We also took a trip to Josie's first Subway, how exciting!
Josie sat in the World's Most Rickety High Chair. It wobbled a solid three inches from side to side. But it was the only one, and we had already ordered and sat down... I mean, come on, we had already ordered! We kept an eye on her. We promise.
Josie is also getting two new teeth, next to her top middle two. We don't have photographic evidence of this yet, but as soon as we do, we'll share.
Anyway, just wanted to update you on this, the last day of her first year!! The year did go by fast in as much as we can't believe she is already (almost) 1. However, I will always be thrilled and grateful that I was able to stay home with her for her first year, because I feel like in that first year I was able to spend so much quality time with her that at least it didn't exactly fly by like everyone says. I'm sure it will get faster as time goes on, but this has definitely been such a great year for all of us -- the best. Happy almost birthday to my sweet little baby Josie!
